LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Two men were stabbed at a Lakewood Ranch apartment complex after two assailants tried to rob one of the victims, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, the suspects followed one of the victims to his residence at the Lost Creek Apartments, 11160 Lost Creek Terrace, off Lakewood Ranch Boulevard, according to a news release.

They confronted the victim in the parking lot and demanded money. He didn't have any, so the suspects tried to take the victim's motorized scooter by force. The victim ran towards his apartment and the suspects followed. During an ensuing struggle, the victim was stabbed in the hand, suffering a superficial wound, according to the report.

A neighbor heard the commotion and came to the first victim's aid. He also was stabbed, suffering a superficial stab wound to his thigh.

The attackers fled in a white vehicle, the sheriff's office said.

Paramedics treated the victims at the scene.

Anyone with information about what happened can call the sheriff's office at 941-747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS.
