Students escape Sarasota school bus hit-and-run unharmed

— All 24 students and a 48-year-old school bus driver escaped injury after a hit-and-run accident at 4:10 p.m. Monday at 27th Street and Leonard Reid Avenue in Sarasota, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The westbound school bus was stopped on 27th Street at the railroad tracks when the driver of a van, said by witnesses to be gold or tan, reportedly slammed into the rear of the bus. The unidentified van driver reportedly backed up from the collision and left the scene traveling north on Leonard Reid Avenue, according to the report. The school bus sustained minor damage to the rear bumper.
