Now, if you're wondering what is up with all the ducks -- here's the deal.
After some diligent tagging Saturday by a gaggle of PACE volunteers (each duck gets a special number -- it is a race, after all), they'll be unleashed en masse along the Manatee River as part of the Lucky Ducky Race for PACE at the Bradenton Riverwalk. For $5 each, a duck can be adopted online at duckrace.com/Manatee. The first duck to cross the finish line wins a 2-year-lease on a Buick Verano courtesy of Conley Buick GMC. The runner-up duck wins a free dinner a week for a year at the Anna Maria Oyster Bar.
So if you can spare a few bucks, it's high time to get your duck on before the 2:30 p.m. Saturday race. PACE students like LaDarika Pinkney, Tiffany Bond and Krizzel Cruz, above, will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this quack-tastic annual fundraiser. Clockwise from right: LaDarika, Tiffany and Krizzel help herald the arrival of more than 15,000 bath-sized rubber ducks.
