Marauders beat Palm Beach in first game of twin bill; second game postponed

May 4, 2013

The Bradenton Marauders (10-17) topped the Palm Beach Cardinals (13-14) 8-1 in Game 1 of a scheduled doubleheader on Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium. A torrential downpour approximately 15 minutes after the first game led to game two being postponed. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday with game one beginning at 5:05 p.m. Nick Kingham (W, 3-2) continued his run of dominance in the first game. James Ramsey and Tyler Rahmatulla hit consecutive doubles leading off the bottom of the first, producing the only run Kingham allowed. The Cardinals didn’t have another hit until a Ramsey single with two outs in the fifth. Kingham struck out seven over six innings, including the side in the second. Joan Montero pitched the seventh inning. Jacob Stallings started two key rallies, eventually scoring the tying and go ahead runs. In the third, he led off with a single to right and later scored on Alen Hanson’s sacrifice fly to tie the game 1-1. Stallings singled to left in the fifth. Taylor Lewis doubled Stallings in two pitches later. Lewis moved to third on an error, and scored on a wild pitch. Gregory Polanco added an RBI-single in the inning to chase Palm Beach starter Travis Miller (L, 0-4) and open up a 4-1 lead. The Marauders added one run in the sixth and three in the seventh. Seven Marauders had hits and six different Bradenton batters drove in a run.
