Mother of four charged with child neglect in Bradenton

May 3, 2013

MANATEE -- A 27-year-old mother of four was arrested and charged with child neglect Friday afternoon after authorities conducting an investigation observed small children being unattended, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

During the joint investigation with Manatee County Child Protection Services a deputy arrived about 1:30 p.m. at a mobile home in the 700 block of 30th Ave West and observed "deplorable" conditions at the home of Simey Luna and saw the children playing outside near a busy roadway, according to a report.

Luna was then observed going outside to get her children ages 5, 2 and 1 while leaving her 6 month baby alone on the couch with a screwdriver near his head, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

When authorities located Luna and questioned her, she seemed unconcerned about the conditions of the home or her actions, the sheriff's office said.
