Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton leaves game with strained right hamstring, goes on disabled list

cspencer@MiamiHerald.comApril 30, 2013

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton left Monday’s game in the 10th inning with a strained right hamstring, which he injured while trying to beat out a throw to first on a nubber in front of the plate.

He was placed on the disabled list.

Stanton grimaced as he crossed the bag at first, reached back as if to grab his leg, hopped twice, and fell to the ground.

He walked off the field gingerly with team trainer Sean Cunningham at his side and did not return.

Stanton, who struggled most of April but seemed to finally find his home run stroke over the weekend, would represent a big blow to a last-place team that lacks star talent.
