Thief steals gold chain, beats victim outside Bradenton check cashing store

MANATEE -- A man was beated and robbed of a gold chain as he was leaving a Bradenton check cashing store, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 1:40 p.m., the victim entered the Amscot store at 3611 First St. to complete a wire transfer of money, according to a news release.

"Upon entering, the suspect was already inside the business. The victim completed his business and was leaving the establishment," the report states. "The suspect was also leaving a few steps ahead of the victim. As the victim was walking out through the doorway, the suspect 'snatched' the victim's gold chain from around his neck."

The suspect then began beating the victim about the face, cutting his lip and loosening several teeth, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect, who was described as standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, then fled on foot, the report said.
