How many of us haven't been frustrated by traffic back-ups on Cortez Road and Manatee Avenue heading out onto Anna Maria Island?
Ever spend almost an hour creeping along Manatee Avenue when the westbound lane is clogged all the way to 75th Street?
That's not a pretty sight.
Jeff Reuter of Bradenton has an outstanding proposal for Florida Department of Transportation, which is currently soliciting ideas specifically about the Cortez Bridge.
In his letter to the editor today, Reuter suggests FDOT and Manatee County position cameras on the Cortez Road route and stream the video on the county website.
We'd add the Manatee Avenue route as well.
On those gorgeous days when sand and water have great appeal, beach-goers could avoid exasperation by checking the web and then delay their departure. What a swell thought.
FDOT is conducting a study about the future of Cortez Bridge and seeks public input. Comments can be sent via www.cortezbridge.com and a survey can be completed there.
Public meetings will also be held, with the first one on April 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church, 6101 Cortez Road.
