Manatee sheriff's deputy saves girl, 7, from drowning

April 18, 2013

MANATEE -- A Manatee County sheriff's deputy rescued a 7-year-old girl who almost drowned in a Bradenton swimming pool, according to the sheriff's office.

About 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Deputy Joseph Scott was swimming with several children at a residence in the 200 block of 50th Street West, when he noticed that the girl was floating face down in the water and was unresponsive.

"Scott immediately removed the victim from the pool by her feet and discovered she was not breathing," a news release states.

While someone else called 911, Scott administered CPR until paramedics arrived.

The girl was taken to Blake Medical Center, and it appears she will make a full recovery, according to the sheriff's office.
