International Hot Rod Association's "Nitro Jam": Bradenton Motor Sports Park, 21000 S.R. 64 East, Bradenton

The International Hot Rod Association's Nitro Jam series returns to Bradenton for two days of thrilling and must-see drag racing action April 19-20 featuring Nitro Jam racing at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. each day and the debut of the drag acing Grave Digger monster truck. Sportsman racing will take place throughout the day and fireworks and pyrotechnics will close the evening. Gates open 9 a.m. April 19 and 7 a.m. April 20. Tickets: $30 adults, $10 children. Film Fridays Series "They Came From Outer Space": South Florida Museum, 201 10th St. W., Bradenton

The South Florida Museum will host the Film Fridays Series "They Came From Outer Space," featuring the history of space invaders on film and includes the following titles: "It Came Form Outer Space" April 19, "The War of the Worlds" April 26, "It: The Terror From Beyond Space" May 10, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" May 17, "Little Shop of Horrors" May 24, "The Blob" May 31, "Contact" June 7, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" June 14, "District 9" June 21, and "Attack the Block" June 28. DeSoto Landing re-enactments: DeSoto National Memorial, 8300 De Soto Memorial Hwy., Bradenton

Join DeSoto National Memorial and witness history as Hernando de Soto boats make landfall, claiming the land of La Florida for the crown of Spain at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 20 near the monuments along the cove. Walk through time and watch unique weapons and demonstrations and follow the footsteps of history on guided tours and join living history park rangers and re-enactors as they recount life during the 16th Century. DeSoto Heritage Festival Musical and Fashion Show: Bradenton Municipal Auditorium, 1005 Barcarrota Blvd., Bradenton

The De Soto Heritage Festival Musical and Fashion Show will be 2:30-3:30 p.m. and 7:30-8:30 p.m. April 20. The two performances are one of the area's premier family entertainment events featuring the 2013 Queen's Court performing skilled dance routines. The afternoon performance is free to the public. The Anna Maria Island Privateers will host a Benefit Car, Truck and Bike Show 1-4 p.m. April 21 featuring various classes with awards for first and second place in each category. There will be a prize drawing and door prizes. Music will be provided by DJ Hootie J. All proceeds will benefit the Privateers' associated youth activities. Food and beverages for purchase. The Anna Maria Island Privateers will host a Spring Scholarship fundraiser 5:30-9 p.m. April 21 featuring auctions, prize drawings, pirate merchandise and more. Live music will be provided by the Gumbo Boogie Band. Proceeds will benefit the Anna Maria Island Privateers Scholarship Fund.
