Manatee County Humane Society Gala aids 'No-Kill' community mission

April 12, 2013

"There's No Place Like Home" was the theme when the Humane Society of Manatee County held its largest fundraiser of the year March 22 at Mixon's in the Grove.

More than 125 guests attended the event which featured silent and live auctions, a "Wizard of Oz"-themed buffet and dancing with music by DJ Robb Smith.

Rebecca Neal, Humane Society board president, spoke to the guests on the excellent progress that's been made this past year in the society's goal of reaching the No-Kill status.

Executive director of HSMC, Amy VanDell, gave a synopsis of the year's successes which included a long overdue makeover for the dog kennels along with computer upgrading and continued education and training for the hard-working staff.

She expressed her appreciation to the fund-raiser volunteer committee for such a successful evening, and also thanked the event sponsors -- John Neal Homes, Rogan & Associates Financial Planners, Neal Communities, Lakewood Ranch, the Bradenton Herald and Bright House Networks.
