Bradenton man charged with felony animal cruelty

BRADENTON -- A 61-year-old man was arrested on drug and animal cruelty charges after police raided his home and found a severely injured dog, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

About 2 p.m. Wednesday, officers investigating illegal drug activity executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of 21st Avenue West.

"Investigators discovered a canine that was severely injured, and was in urgent need of medical attention," the release states.

Manatee County Animal Services took the dog to an animal hospital, where it was euthanized.

The suspect, Junior Lee Lessley, was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty and possession of rock cocaine. He was released from jail after posting bonds totaling $3,000.
