April 10, 2013

MANATEE -- A wanted man was arrested early Wednesday in Bradenton after he lead deputies on a high-speed chase, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About midnight, a deputy running radar on U.S. 301 near Tallevast Road spotted a red Volkswagen going north at about 124 mph. The deputy issued a "be on the lookout" for the vehicle, and multiple units responded to the area of U.S. 301 and State Road 70 in an attempt to stop the vehicle, according to a news release.

Eventually, the sheriff's helicopter joined in the pursuit. The deputy in the aircraft saw the vehicle pull in to 32nd Avenue East and stop, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies eventually surrounded the house, and the homeowner allowed a search. The suspect, Jerry Wayne Green Jr., 26, was arrested, according to the sheriff's office.

A check of records revealed that Green has active warrants out of Manatee and Sarasota counties.
