MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's Office cruiser was involved in a traffic accident Saturday evening, the sheriff's office said.

A deputy, driving a marked patrol car, was responding to a call with lights and siren activated at about 7:45 p.m., driving in the 3800 block of Fifth Street East, according to a news release.

As the deputy passed another vehicle, that vehicle attempted to turn into an apartment complex and struck the patrol car.

The deputy's vehicle had to be towed from the scene, the release said.
