Sinkhole forces evacuation of home in Ruskin

April 5, 2013

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials responded to the scene of a sinkhole Thursday evening in Ruskin.

The hole is small, according to officials, but near a home in the 1300 block of Third Avenue.

Officials roped off the area near the hole, which measures about seven feet long and six to 12 inches deep. Actually more of a depression, it is about 10 feet from the home.

The home was evacuated as a precaution.

Code enforcement officials are scheduled to assess the sinkhole today and find out if it has gotten any bigger and determine the next step.

Officials can condemn the home or allow the property owner back in to have the hole fixed.
