Beer truck crashes on Interstate 75, falls into Manatee River

April 4, 2013

ELLENTON -- All lanes of northbound Interstate 75 over the Manatee River have been reopened after a beer truck crashed into the river early Thursday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

About 4:30 a.m. the driver of a semi-tractor trailer going north on I-75 lost control, struck the inside concrete bridge retaining wall and went over the retaining wall and into the river. The truck was empty, according to FHP.

The driver, who is from Largo, was pulled out of the water and taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, where he was in serious condition, according to FHP.

There was minor damage to the retaining wall, FHP said.
