Goodwill helps boost employment in region

Goodwill Manasota placed nearly 400 people in jobs outside of Goodwill in Sarasota, Manatee, Hardee and DeSoto counties in 2012.

"We are hoping to boost that number further with more Job Connection centers opening," said Bob Rosinsky, President & CEO of Goodwill Manasota.

Goodwill has placed 146 in job thus far this year and hopes to increase those numbers since the Goodwill North Trail Job Connection at 5150 N. Tamiami Trail opened this year.

Supported by funds generated through the sale of donated goods, the Job Connection Centers provide free assistance to help job seekers connect with potential employers and find permanent employment. Services include access to resources like computers and the internet, fax machines, telephones, and job leads and referrals. A trained career development facilitator is on site to assist individuals with their job search.

Medallion Home sets first quarter record

Medallion Home has set Company records for both quantity and dollar volume of sales for the first quarter of 2013.

The company sold 85 homes totalling about $27.2 million in the first 90 days of the year.

Trio launches new business inspired by recycling

Brenda Ellison, Dave Burns and Lisa Burns, three local business owners have launched a new business, Re-Scape.com.

The trio say that Re-Scape.com is inspired recycling. The website offers exclusive video tips, tutorials, contests, community projects and monthly newsletters through a membership program.

Re-Scape.com officially launches on April 22 with a community project.

In honor of Earth Day and the launch of Re-Scape.com, the team will be working with two other local businesses to create a memorial garden for local animal sanctuary, Vintage Paws on the grounds of Ace Pet Resort in Sarasota.

On April 20th from 10am-noon, Backyard Getaway will be teach a hands on class about installing a dry creek bed and planting Florida friendly plants in the new memorial garden on April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. Re-Scape.com will create a dog house, foot bridge and bench from re-purposed pallets and other recycled materials, which will be installed in the Memorial Garden. Additional plans include a memorial brick patio.
