Jesse Fulk, sophomore, Manatee

Weight: 145 pounds

To his credit: A county and district champion and regional runner-up, Fulk went 47-8 en route to the making the Class 3A state tournament for the first time. Fulk, who has won 101 matches in two seasons on the varsity squad, earned his second silver medal at Brandon's prestigious Tony Ippolito Memorial Tournament and won a match at the state meet at The Lakeland Center. Of his eight losses this season, five came to state place-winners and three were to eventual state champions.

Fast fact: Jesse has a chance to eclipse his older brothers on Manatee's all-time wins list: Andrew won 154 matches, and Travis won 157. Each went on to wrestle at Division I programs, with Andrew going to Duke and Travis choosing Gardner-Webb.

Up next: Fulk already has wrestled 11 offseason matches and will be competing in the upcoming National High School Coaches Association tournament in Virginia Beach. His regimen consists of lifting weights Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays and working on technique Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. He'll also be attending various camps as the summer progresses.

GIRLS WEIGHTLIFTINGCarleen Porter, junior, Southeast

Weight class: Unlimited

To her credit: A third trip to the state weightlifting meet proved the charm for Porter, who finished a career-best fourth with a combined lift of 390 pounds. Porter lifted 220 in the bench and 170 in the clean and jerk to earn her first state medal. A two-time Herald All-Area Weightlifter of the Year, Porter continues Southeast's stronghold on the award after Kelsey Vance won it three straight years and Jessica Holt took the honor in 2011.

Fast fact: Porter enjoys computer design and hopes to study it in college. Consequently, Porter is already looking into schools such as Ringling College of Art and Design and Full Sale University.

Up next: Porter throws the shot for Southeast's track and field team, but she will spend her summer working out five days a week in the school's weight room.
