Holmes Beach names Tokajer as police chief

HOLMES BEACH -- William Tokajer, 52, who was with the Bradenton Police Department 26 years, has been named chief of police of the Holmes Beach Police Department.

"I am very happy and honored to be given this opportunity," Tokajer said Monday.

Tokajer has been administrative chief of the Longboat Key Police Department. Tokajer is not sure when he will start inHolmes Beach.

"I have not been given a start date, but, yes, I will accept the position," Tokajer said. "In the next couple of days I will sit down with Holmes Beach Mayor Carmel Monti and iron out the logistics of when I start. This

is the first time in my career I have been police chief."

The Holmes Beach City Commission ratified Monti's nomination of Tokajer last Thursday, according to Holmes Beach City Commission records.

Tokajer said he was in Venice on Monday ordering his new uniform.

Holmes Beach Interim Police Chief Dale Stephenson, hired to fill infor former chief JayRomine, has resigned, according to Holmes Beach City Commission records.

Tokajer retired as deputy chief from the Bradenton Police Department in January 2011.
