Bradenton woman killed trying to cross State Road 70

— A bicyclist was killed Friday night when she was hit by a car while trying to cross State Road 70, The Florida Highway Patrol said.

The bicyclist, a 55-year-old Bradenton woman, was crossing State Road 70 in the marked crosswalk at the intersection of Fifth Street West at about 8:43 p.m., the FHP said. A gray Lincoln Towncar was eastbound in the right lane of State Road 70 approaching the intersection., according to a news release.

The bicyclist failed to see the vehicle, which hit the woman, throwing her onto the windshield. No skidmarks were found at the scene, the FHP said.

The driver was not cited, the news release said. The woman's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
