Masked gunman robs pedestrian near Cortez

MANATEE -- A masked gunman robbed a man late Monday as he was walking home near Cortez, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:40 p.m., the victim, who lives in Holmes Beach, was walking along the the 11300 block of Cortez Road, when a car passed him. The driver made a U-turn and then stopped in front of the man, according to a news release.

"A masked male then exited the car and pointed a gun at the victim," the report states. "The suspect took the victim's belongings and then fled in the car eastbound."

Responding deputies saturated the area but could not find the suspect or his vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
