Off-duty police officer dodges bullet in Manatee

Someone shot at an off-duty police officer while he was driving home from work early Saturday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.

The City of St. Petersburg officer was in uniform, driving his personal vehicle southbound on Interstate 275 at about 4:30 a.m., coming off the Sunshine Skyway Bridge when a older model blue Honda pulled up along side and fired one shot, shattering his driver's side window.

According a news release, the officer, whose name is being withheld, was able to radio his dispatchers, who relayed information to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Responding units did not locate the subject's vehicle.

The officer was treated for minor cuts from the glass of the shattered window. The investigation is ongoing at the time.
