SARASOTA COUNTY — A woman on probation and her husband were arrested on charges of illegal gun and drug possession after officers searched their home in Nokomis, according to a release.

Lesley Blaney, a convicted felon on felony probation, was selling her prescription medication and taking in firearms as trade for the pills, according to her probation officer. Sarasota deputies assisted the probation officer in a search Thursday of the Blaneys' home in the 100 block of South Grove, where they found two firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and a switchblade knife in her bedroom, the report stated. The firearms, a Smith and Wesson 9mm and an assault rifle were found loaded. The Smith and Wesson was in a dresser drawer and the AK74 assault rifle was leaning up against a wall in an unlocked gun case, deputies reported. Both guns had loaded magazines. The switchblade knife was in a night stand next to the bed. The ammunition was inside both firearm magazines, the top drawer of the night stand and hundreds of rounds were found inside of a box in the bedroom closet, according to the report.

According to Florida State Statute 790.230, it is unlawful for a convicted felon to own or to have in his or her care any firearm, ammunition or electric weapon or device.

Officers also found a small orange pill bottle without a label that contained small pieces of what resembled crack or cocaine, other drugs and drug paraphernalia, the report states. Mark Blaney was questioned about the drugs and a 9mm pistol, then was arrested and taken to the North County Jail.
