BRADENTON — A Manatee sheriff's deputy broke up a fight early Thursday by using an electronic-controlled weapon, then detained the suspect, a report states.

Santos Velasquez, 24, was arrested and charged with battery and resisting arrest after a patrol deputy observed the fight and attempted to break it up in the 5900 block of 15th Street East.

The suspect was about to punch a 19-year-old woman, according to the report, and the deputy deployed his ECW and struck Velasquez. The suspect was taken to Manatee County jail.
