Incumbents hang on in Longboat Key general election

LONGBOAT KEY -- Terry Gans edged Irwin Pastor 1,262 to 1,235 votes to claim the Longboat Key at large one-year commission seat in the 2013 Longboat Key general election Tuesday.

In another close race, Jim Brown defeated Larry Grossman for the District 4 Commission seat by a tally of 1,395 to 1,094 votes.

Phillip Younger prevailed over Gene Jaleski, 1,479 to 1,000 votes, for the District at large two-year commission seat.

Of Manatee County's 2,068 voters from Precinct 95, 774 cast ballots, including 188 early voters, 210 absentee voters and 376 at the polls, according to a Longboat Key city report.

Of Sarasota County's 4,195 registered voters, 1,735 cast ballots, including 927 early voters, 665 absentee voters and 917 at the polls, the report states.

When tallied together, of 6,263 registered voters, 2,509, or 40.06 percent, cast votes, according to the report.
