Manatee deputies use stun gun in arrest

MANATEE -- Deputies used a taser to subdue a suspect who returned to the scene of an aggravated assault Monday night, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The first deputy who responded to the scene in the 1000 block of 49th Avenue Terrace West spotted the suspect on the front porch grabbing a bicycle, the sheriff's report said.

A deputy challenged the suspect to show his hands, but instead of complying, the "suspect picked up the bike and threw it towards the deputy," the report said.

The deputy used his stun gun in an attempt to subdue the suspect. At that time other deputies arrived and assisted in the arrest without further injury or incident.

The suspect was listed as Brian Sellers, 49, who was identified as homeless.
