Hundreds head to Manatee beaches; 70 percent chance of rain Tuesday

Are you on spring break in Manatee County? Today is the day to hit the beach, then, weatherwise. It's probably going to rain on Tuesday.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, temperatures were in the upper 70s near the coast. But the clouds are already gathered.

Plenty of beachgoers are ahead of you if you aren't on the sand yet. Traffic along Manatee Avenue and Cortez Road has been jammed for hours. On Manatee Avenue, the westbound traffic was jammed almost to 51st Street this afternoon.

The forecast: partly cloudy into the evening, and then the chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. On Tuesday, lows in the mid 60s near the coast and around 60 inland. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain increases tonight to 50 percent.

On Tuesday: Cloudy with showers likely and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s near the coast and in the upper 70s inland. South winds around 10 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Chance of rain: 70 percent.
