One person killed in truck crash in Palmetto

— One person died in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Palmetto.

About 10:54 a.m., Palmetto police and the North River Fire District were dispatched to the 700 block of 10th Avenue West.

A truck had collided with a tree off of the road's east shoulder.

"As a result of the impact, it did catch fire," said Palmetto Lt. Mike Stinson.

The victim's identity has not been released, and the cause of the crash is unknown at this time.

Just after noon, authorities were waiting for the medical examiner to arrive.

Several roads in the area are blocked due to the crash and investigation.
