Habitat highlights new project

Manatee County Habitat for Humanity will host a luncheon Friday highlighting the Women Build project and celebrating International Women's Day.

The luncheon, sponsored by Bright House Networks, will be from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Palmetto Art Center, 907 Fifth St. W., Palmetto.

Featured guest speakers will be Mary Dailey, co-chair of the "Through Women's Eyes" film festival held in conjunction with the Sarasota Film Festival, and Ana Reyes, future Habitat homeowner.

Tickets are $25 and all proceeds benefit Manatee Habitat Women Build.

The Women Build team is completing the last phase of construction on a 4-bedroom Habitat home at Hope Landing in Ellenton.

Spring Flingtakes place Thursday

The Manatee Chamber of Commerce's fifth annual Spring Fling Community Expo takes place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chamber's Lakewood Ranch Office at the McClure Center, 4215 Concept Court.

The Spring Fling Community Expo is a free event and will feature Chamber members displaying their products and service, entertainment, complimentary hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and silent auction.

Dental officeprovided free service

Advanced Dental Care of Bradenton provided more than $2,100 in free dental care in February to the area's underserved children.

As part of the American Dental Association's Give Kids A Smile program, Advanced Dental Care of Bradenton opened up their schedule and provided uninsured children with desperately needed dental treatment.

During the event, children of all ages received dental treatment, including exams, x-rays, cleanings, sealants and fluoride treatment.

Bulls, Blue and BBQcoming this month

The Manatee Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with USF, will hold the second annual Bulls, Blue and BBQ event from 5 to 8 p.m. March 20 at USF Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail.

Attendees from Manatee and Sarasota will have an opportunity to network, with live blues music by Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones and barbecue from Chamber member restaurants.

Cost is $15 for Chamber members if purchased before March 18; $25 after that. Guests can also purchase tickets for $25.

"Bulls, Blues & BBQ is a great partnership between three organizations committed to fostering relationships between Manatee and Sarasota counties," said Kim Dalglish, vice president of membership and development for the Manatee Chamber of Commerce.
