MANATEE -- A Sarasota man was killed early Saturday when a car turned into the path of his motorcycle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

David A. Kohl, 47, was riding a Kawasaki 570 northbound on 15th Street East, approaching 57th Ave. Drive East at about 1:35 a.m., according to a news release.

The FHP said Daniel Camrgo, 33, of Bradenton, was southbound on 15th Street East, preparing to make a left turn into a parking lot. The report states Camrgo, driving a Chrysler van, turned left into Kohl's path. Kohl's motorcycle struck the right side of the van, throwing him onto the roadway.

The report indicates Kohl, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

Camrgo was charged with failing to yield to oncoming traffic, the FHP said.
