Rowing timeline

2009: Benderson Development paid Sarasota County $1 million to rename the park after Nathan Benderson. Two successful regattas held.

2010: Sarasota County Commission approves plan that would transform Nathan Benderson Park into a world-class rowing center. Two regattas held.

2011: Seven regattas held. Fort Hamer rowing training facility opens near Parrish.

2012: Dredging begins to extend the lake at Nathan Benderson Park. Seven regattas held. Construction starts on University Town Center.

April 2013: Cattlemen Road to include connection bridge.

September 2013: Work completed to create Regatta Island, pedestrian bridge around park and lake.

November 2013: Nathan Benderson Park restrooms, playground and landscaping completed.

April 2014: Regatta building pads ready for vertical construction.

October 2014: University Town Center grand opening with first hotel.

April 2015: Nathan Benderson Park boathouse, starting tower, finishing tower, timing huts completed.

2017: World rowing championships.
