The Bradenton Herald would like to express its appreciation to the Manatee Community Foundation for the honor bestowed upon this company on Wednesday at the eighth annual Spirit of Manatee Awards.

The Community Spirit award recognizes this newspaper's long tradition of supporting nonprofits with $600,000 contributed via scholarships to more than 170 organizations.

Plus, we extend our congratulations to all the other honorees and their awards:

n Bradenton Christian School senior Kristen Truong, Young Spirit.

n The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch, Community Spirit.

n Jane Evers, Volunteer Spirit.

n Vernon DeSear, Leadership Spirit.

n Fred and Millie Vandergraff, Lifetime Spirit.

In accepting the Herald's award, Publisher Bob Turner commented on another company effort:

"We take particular pride in our annual Golden Herald Awards. Established in 1978, the Bradenton Herald has honored more than 4,300 high school seniors for service to their school and community."

Our thanks again to the Manatee County Foundation.
