MANATEE -- A driver stopped at a traffic light at U.S. 301 and 30th Avenue East about 8:40 p.m. Sunday accelerated away from two gunmen who approached her on foot, and pulled on her door handles, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The victim was driving west on 30th Avenue East, when she stopped at the intersection of U.S. 301 for a red light. As the victim waited for the light to cycle she was approached by two males on foot from the east on 30th Avenue, the report said.

The suspects each pointed an unknown type black sidearm at the victim while pulling on the locked driver's front door handle, and the passenger's front door handle. The victim immediately accelerated away from the suspects.

Investigators are calling the incident an attempted armed robbery and possible attempted car jacking.
