MANATEE — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision Friday evening, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old St. Petersburg resident, was traveling northbound on Third Street West, approaching he intersection of 34th Avenue West at about 9:40 p.m.
At the same time, a Dodge Avenger driven by 23-year-old Keith V. Brooks of Bradenton was southbound on Third Street West, approaching the same intersection, the FHP said in a news release.
The driver of the Dodge did not see the motorcyclist and attempted to turn left on 34th Avenue West, in the path of the motorcycle, the FHP said.
The front of the motorcycle struck the right side of the Dodge. The impact tore the front wheel assembly off the motorcycle, according to the news release.
The motorcyclist was taken to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries. Brooks was cited for failure to yield right of way while making a left turn, the FHP said.
