— Only one Manatee County wrestler is still alive for a state championship try after Manatee's Jesse Fulk fell in the second round Friday.

Fulk and Southeast High's Michael Quinetero were the lone area winners in the first round. Quintero's second-round match is coming up at The Lakeland Center.

Fulk, who is competing in the 145-pound weight class in Class 3A, earned a 7-3 decision over Lake Worth Park Vista senior Nick Barrett. It was Barrett's second loss of the season. But Fulk fell 3-2 to Deland's Christian Lohsen.

Quintero, a heavyweight pinned his opponent, Kole Krimm, of Panama City Beach, in the second period of a Class 1A match.

Fulk's teammate, Dakoda Dossey, lost a narrow 8-7 decision to Miami Columbus senior Sonny Gulesian in the 152-pound division.

In Class 2A, Palmetto's quartet of wrestlers - Anthony Viscomi (126 pounds), Nathan Callihan (145), Tyler Williford (152) and Robert McLachlan (195) - all lost.

McLachlan's defeat was particularly disappointing as he fell to Jensen Beach junior Josh Conroy in an 8-7 decision. But McLachlan responded with a 6-1 victory over Christopher Nash of Fort Walton Choctawatchee in the wrestleback opener.

Viscomi, Callihan and Williford all were eliminated in the wrestlebacks.

Also competing in 2A, Lakewood Ranch's Blake Riley-Hawkins and Braden River's Samuel Massenburg fell in the first round, but both rebounded to win their first wrestleback bout.

In Class 1A, two Southeast wrestlers lost two matches and were eliminated. They are Joey Fazio (132) and Ricky Almodovar (160).
