Registration under way for Take Stock in Children of Manatee County 10K and 5K runs

Registration open for Take Stock 10K, 5K runs

MANATEE -- The fourth annual Take Stock in Children of Manatee County 10K (6.2 miles) and 5K (3.1 mile) runs, which start and finish at Lakewood Ranch Main Street, are set to start 7:30 a.m. March 3. A Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m.

Take Stock in Children is a nonprofit organization that helps children from low-income families achieve academic and personal success by providing mentoring programs and college scholarships.

Registration for the 10K and 5K is now open at www.TakeStock10k.com.

The rst 1,000 registrants will receive a tech shirt and goody bag.

One-man play set for Braden River library

EAST MANATEE -- The Friends of the Braden River Branch Library host playwright and performer Steve Carroll, who will present a one-man play titled "Charles Lindbergh: the Lone Eagle" 10:30 a.m. Saturday. at the library, 4915 53rd Ave. E.

In the play, the famed aviator has returned from the grave to set the record straight about his life: the audience learns of his early days as a barnstormer, his flight to Paris, his son's kidnapping and more.

It concludes with Lindbergh's final days as a renowned environmentalist.
