Remember the 1983 hit musical film "Flashdance"?

Sure you do.

It's the one about a Pittsburgh woman played by Jennifer Beals who works as a welder by day and an exotic dancer by night but really just wants to get into ballet school.

Well, it finally found its natural home in musical theater when it began a U.K. tour several years ago.

"Flashdance: The Musical" opens in Tampa next week before a Broadway premiere scheduled for August, according to Playbill.com.

This new show features smash hits including the Academy Award-winning title track "Flashdance -- What a Feeling," "Maniac" and "I Love Rock & Roll" along with 16 original songs.

Details: Feb. 19-24, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa. Tickets: $44.50 and up. Information: 800-955-1045 or www.strazcenter.org.
