UPCOMING EVENTS

Feb. 15-17: Manatee Area Youth Soccer Organization will hold an entry-level referee course for those interested in refereeing youth soccer matches. Referees must be at least 13 years old, and the cost of the course is $100. The course will be from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 15 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 16 and 17 at the MAYSO clubhouse at G.T. Bray park. Anyone interested in attending the clinic must go to www.fsr-inc.com and click on the "become a referee" link and follow the directions. Feb. 16: Manatee Area Youth Soccer Organization will hold registration for its spring soccer season for players ages 4-16 from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 16 at the MAYSO clubhouse at G.T. Bray park. The cost for the 10-game season is $110 for players ages 4-7 and $130 for players 8 and older. Prospective players may register online by going to mayso.org and clicking on registration. The season begins March 23 and ends May 11. For more information, contact Kevin Cassidy at competition@mayso.org.

Feb. 17: The Sons of Italy will host Bocce Games from 1-5 p.m. Feb. 17 at G.T. Bray park. BYO everything for food and drinks. Follow signs in the park for location. All are welcome.

Feb. 23: The Manatee County 4-H Foundation is inviting golfers to participate in the 22nd annual Clover Classic Golf Tournament on Feb. 23 at The Preserve Golf Club, 7310 Tara Preserve Lane. The fundraiser, which features an 8 a.m. shotgun start, will benefit the 4-H youth programs in Manatee County. The $100-per-player registration fee includes green fees, cart, lunch and door prizes. For registration information, call the Manatee County 4-H office at 941-722-4524 before Feb. 15.

Feb. 23-24: Junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour's Oak Wing Junior Classic on Feb. 23-24 in Alexandria, La. The entry fee is $195. Call Owen Seiler at 318-402-2446 to enter by noon Feb. 20.

March 2: Bradenton Country Club will hold the Cure for Kids tennis doubles tournament March 2 at Bradenton Country Club. The entry fee is $50 per person, plus $10 for two events. March 5: The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders are accepting registrations for the fourth annual Baseball Basics for Women clinic. The clinic is intended for youth adult and adult women interested in learning or refining their baseball fundamentals. It will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 5 at McKechnie Field. The registration fee is $40. Pirates major- and minor-league player players and coaches will instruct participants in hitting, catching, running the bases and fielding. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt and a ticket to the March 8 game against the Baltimore Orioles. Gecko's Grill & Pub will provide dinner after the clinic.
