Pedestrian struck while trying to cross U.S. 41 in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A 38-year-old man was seriously injured Thursday evening when he was hit by a car while trying to cross U.S. 41 in Bradenton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

About 9:35 p.m., the man was standing in the common turn lane across from the Racetrac gas station at 5410 14th St. W., when stepped into the path of a driver also in the center lane, according to a report.

The car struck the man, sending him airborne and landing him on the pavement, according to FHP.

The pedestrian "failed to yield right of way to approaching vehicles," an FHP trooper wrote in the report.

The pedestrian was taken to Blake Medical Center, where he was in serious condition, according to the report.
