MANATEE -- A Manatee County sheriff's deputy hit and killed a deer with his patrol vehicle in East Manatee early Monday, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy was not injured and the car suffered about $500 in the accident, which happened about 12:50 a.m. in the 2100 block of North Rye Road. The deer was killed instantly, according to a news release.
The sheriff's office said visibility was limited because of patchy fog, and the deputy, who was driving about 50 mph, was unable to avoid hitting the deer with the right front side of the car.
