MANATEE — A man was assaulted and robbed while sitting in a car Friday night, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.

The victim and his friend were sitting in their car parked in their driveway in the 6200 block of 12th Street Court East, drinking beer at about 11:45 p.m., according to a news release.

An unknown suspect walked by the car while a second suspect walked up to car and opened the driver's door. The suspect struck the victim in the head with a black pistol, the news release said.

Even though the suspect said nothing, the victim immediately reached into his pocket and handed cash to his attacker. Both suspects fled on foot to the west. They were described as males wearing hooded sweatshirts, according to the news release.
