MANATEE -- Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport unveiled Friday its new check-in area design, something SRQ plans to implement throughout the terminal.

The check-in area improvements offer a brighter look with new terrazzo floors, ceiling and wall finishes plus LED and electronic ballast lighting, noted SRQ officials in a news release.

The contemporary styling is expected to be easier to maintain, and the new lighting systems are "environmentally friendly," the release states.

The ticketing area renovations are expected to be completed by May.

In the past two years, SRQ has installed new escalators, renovated the restrooms, updated information technology infrastructure and the baggage screening system, and replaced the roof and skylights.

Other terminal renovations will continue for two to three years, SRQ officials said.

"In two years, the community will essentially have a new terminal and we are very excited to see this phase complete," President and Chief Executive Officer Rick Piccolo stated.
