February 1, 2013

MANATEE -- A man armed with a knife tried to sexually assault a woman late Thursday as she walked on a Bradenton street, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 11:45 p.m., the victim was leaving a house in the 5900 block of 11th Street East when she saw the suspect standing at 57th Avenue Terrace East and 10th Street East, according to a news release.

The man approached her, put his hand over her mouth, put a knife to her throat and "tells her over and over, 'Don't scream or I'll kill you,'" the release states.

The suspect took the victim behind a house in the 1000 block of 57th Avenue Terrace East and threw her to ground. He started to assault her but then stopped. The victim got up and she and the assailant walked their separate ways, according to the sheriff's office.

Detectives have a suspect in the case, but he couldn't be located, according to the report.
