Weekly U.S. jobless aid claims rise

The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits rose 38,000 to a seasonally adjusted 368,000 last week after plummeting by a combined 45,000 in the previous two weeks to five-year lows.The total remained at a level consistent with moderate hiring. The four-week average ticked up to 352,000, just above a four-year low. Most economists weren't concerned by either increase.Thursday's report came a day before the government is scheduled to issue its January jobs report. Analysts expect that it will show employers added 155,000 jobs. The unemployment rate is expected to remain at 7.8 percent for the third straight month.

Cortez Heating & Airgets new image

BRADENTON -- Milestone Marketing Associates has given Cortez Heating & Air Conditioning a new look.

The new logo is based on the company's existing design, featuring the company name and a stylized sun design. But it has been re-imagined to give it a more modern and professional feel. The new logo and color scheme will also be used on Cortez's business cards, envelopes and stationery. Milestone is also working on a new website for Cortez.

Ryland starts construction on model home

BRADENTON -- Ryland Homes has started construction of the four-bedroom Frost II model home at Arbor Reserve, a new gated enclave of single-family homes west of Interstate75 on Lockwood Ridge Road, one-half mile south of State Road 70.

The Frost II model home offers four bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths in 2,284 square feet of living space with a two-car garage.

Ryland Homes plans to build 52 new three- and four-bedroom homes at Arbor Ridge that range in size from 1,481 square feet of living space to 2,600 square feet with two- and three-car garages.

The Frost II model home will open in April.

First Watch to open third restaurant in Maryland

BRADENTON -- Restaurant chain First Watch will open a restaurant in Timonium, Md., its third restaurant in the state. The restaurant is expected to open in the second quarter of 2013 and will employ about 25 people.

The 3,520-square-foot restaurant will hold an interior space in the Giant Food Store-anchored Timonium Square Shopping Center. This marks the second Baltimore-area First Watch, with one in Pikesville. First Watch also has a location in Rockville, Md.

Reflections Counseling Center opens in Burns Court

SARASOTA -- Reflections Counseling Center LLC has opened in downtown Sarasota's Burns Court District at 630 S. Orange Ave., Suite 200K.

With several licensed therapists of varied specialties, the growing center treats couples, individuals, children and teens. Areas of specialization include anxiety, addictions, depression and many other types of psychological distress. Christ-centered therapy is available.
