Vin's People: Manatee High dance team seeks another top 10 finish

Good luck to the Manatee High School Sugar 'Canes, who will put their best foot forward this weekend at the Universal Dance Association National Dance Team Championship at Disney World.

Director Amber Platowski's dancers will compete in varsity high kick against 23 other squads from the U.S.

The Sugar 'Canes took ninth in the nation last year in this category.

Prelims are Saturday at Disney's Hollywood Studios; and finals, Sunday at Wide World of Sports.

Led by captain Rachel Schmitt and co-captain Margarida Phelan, they are Whitney Barnes, Holly Braxton, Cierra Cydrus, Brianna DiTommaso, Julie Ann Galati, Amanda Grooms, Alyssa Kopinsky, Alessandra Krause, Elly Kretchman, Sarah Melancon, Alivia Murdoch, Marissa Pace, Rachel Rothfeld, Callee Sandberg, Allegra Smart, Sarah Smith, Lucie Walsh, Jennifer Walstad and Madeline Wasser.

n Speaking of Manatee, the Hurricanes 14th annual Baseball Steakout & Reunion is 5-9 p.m. tonight at Manatee High, 902 33rd St. Ct. W., Bradenton.

n Demetrios' is holding a spaghetti fundraiser for one of its own 5-9 p.m. Monday.

Chef Sergio Valdez,

a husband and father of three, was injured in a car accident while driving folks to Miami as a favor and will be out of work for a few months.

A $10 donation gets you spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, Greek salad, soft drink and the gratuity.

The restaurant is donating all the food and the staff, their time.
