Published: January 31, 2013

The Arizona Diamondbacks signed the versatile Martin Prado to a four-year contract extension on Thursday.

Prado was acquired in the seven-player trade that sent outfielder Justin Upton to the Atlanta Braves last week.

The 29-year-old native of Venezuela had spent his entire seven-year career with Atlanta and was an All-Star in 2010. He has played primarily second base, third base and left field during his career and is a .295 hitter with 52 homers and 286 RBI over 683 games.

Last season, Prado appeared in a career-high 156 contests and batted .301 with 42 doubles, 10 homers, 70 RBI and 81 runs scored. He led the National League with 60 multi-hit games.

Prado's new deal will extend through 2016.
