HILLSBOROUGH -- Southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the Manatee-Hillsborough county line are slowly being reopened after a fuel tanker truck fire Wednesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol had closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the Manatee-Hillsborough county line due to a tanker fire just after 6 a.m.

Lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m. but a backup of about five miles remained.

According to troopers, the closure was due to a fuel tanker that caught fire. The tanker did not explode and there was no spill, according to officials. Traffic was stopped as a precaution while fighters put out the fire and crews examined the truck.

There were no injuries reported.

The closure was at Mile Marker 232.5. Northbound traffic was not affected.
