Wheelchair-bound man mugged outside Bradenton store

January 30, 2013

MANATEE -- A wheelchair-bound man was robbed outside a Bradenton store late Tuesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The 53-year-old victim was leaving the Dollar General at 5100 15th St. E., when a man approached him from behind and attempted to snatch his man-purse, or "murse," which was wrapped around his right arm, according to a news release.

During a struggle, the suspect pulled the victim out of the wheelchair and onto the ground. The suspect grabbed the murse and entered the backseat of a waiting vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. The vehicle then fled the area southbound, behind the shopping center.

The victim went home and called law enforcement about 40 minutes after the robbery, according to the report.
