Manatee Boys & Girls Club recipients for 18th year

HERALD STAFF REPORTJanuary 29, 2013

For the 18th year in a row, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County is one of the recipients of proceeds from an ongoing fundraiser at Lido Key.

Jewels on the Bay Design-er Showhouses is show-casing two luxury homes at 361 and 439 Boulevard of the Presidents through Feb. 17.

Tours are offered 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

The cost is $20 and benefits both the Boys & Girls of Manatee and Sarasota counties.

"The JOTB Designer Showhouse and the Boys & Girls Clubs is an awesome partnership that brings two different community groups together to help raise funds for over 10,000 children," said Carl Weeks, president of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County.

"I can't wait to see thefantastic designs and fashions that come from all of the creative designers."

More than 30 designers will transform rooms using pacific blues, jade and celadon greens, corals and a revival of lavender.

Guests will also see modern architectural features donned in gold, black and white, zig-zag patterns and exotic animal prints.

New this year is Saks Fifth Avenue's role, combining fashion elements from a designer clothing perspective and smart accessory and makeup looks.

The Showhouse has raised more than $500,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs in both Manatee and Sarasota, as well as scholarship funds for Ringling College and Art & Design and University of South Florida.

Last year, the Showhouse donated more than $34,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs, in part due to a donation from a percentage of the sale of one of the homes on the tour.
