MANATEE -- A Lake Wales woman faces arrest after she lied to authorities about the whereabouts of her husband, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Viola Bailey told investigators that her husband, Charles L. Bailey became upset Thursday after he was notified of a pending arrest warrant naming him as a suspect in a juvenile sex crime. The couple went for a drive, stopping at the Oasis Food Store, in the 32000 block of State Road 62 in Duette, according to a news release issued Sunday.

At the store, Mrs. Bailey went inside. When she came back out, she found that Bailey had disappeared, taking only his identification and a gun, according to the report.

On the advice of family members, the wife waited until Sunday evening to report her husband missing, according to the sheriff's office.

Later, the Manatee sheriff's office released an update stating, "Detectives have learned that this story was fabricated by the wife of Bailey. She will be charged by Polk County Sheriff's Office with filing a false police report."
